IPL 2020: 4 players who can lead Chennai Super Kings in MS Dhoni’s absence
Dhoni might or might not make it to 2020 T20 World Cup, but the mere prospect of seeing him on the field after eight long months will be a sight to cherish.
1. Suresh Raina
Mr.IPL will be the front-runner in case Captain Cool misses out from the Chennai Super Kings XI during 2020 IPL. The 33-year-old who led the now-defunct Gujarat Lions to a third-place finish in 2016 IPL captained the Men in Yellow in three matches (won two, lost one) during the victorious 2010 IPL campaign when MS Dhoni was out of action for ten days due to an elbow injury.
Last season, Raina donned the captaincy role for CSK after nine long years as Dhoni had to miss two crucial fixtures against Sunrisers Hyderabad (away) and Mumbai Indians (home). Unfortunately, Chennai put up a moderate performance in those two games thereby losing both the fixtures (by six wickets against SRH and by 46 runs against Mumbai Indians) under Raina’s captaincy.
The southpaw who has 5368 IPL runs under his belt has been a consistent performer for CSK over the years scoring more than 350 runs in all ten seasons he has played for the franchise so far and will be determined to continue his impressive run in 2020 IPL as well. Most importantly, don’t be surprised if the charming ‘Chinna Thala’ who is adored by the passionate fans of the Yellow Army walks out for the toss once again in ‘Thala’ Dhoni’s absence during the upcoming edition of IPL!
