IPL 2020: KXIP's Chris Gayle loses his cool; throws away his bat after getting out on 99
Gayle smacked 6 fours and 8 sixes during his 63-ball stay in the middle.
Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) locked horns against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in match 50 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) in Abu Dhabi. Other teams were also having an eye on this match with a lot at stake on the result of this match on their playoff chances. The toss went RR skipper Steve Smith’s way and once he opted to bowl first, it was all about Chris Gayle with the bat.
The Universe Boss was in the mood on the day as he came out to bat in the first over itself after Mandeep Singh bagged a golden duck. Normally, Gayle takes a bit of time before going after the bowling but this game was different. He knew a lot was riding on it and the left-hander literally attacked the opposition from the word go. He stitched a partnership of 120 runs with skipper KL Rahul first and in that, the latter only scored 46 runs.
He was lucky on a couple of occasions with Riyan Prag dropping him once, Chris Gayle made the Royals pay. Having timed the ball crisply throughout his innings, the West Indian legend looked set to smash yet another century. When the final over of the innings began, he was on 92 and he smacked a six off Jofra Archer to reach 99.
Chris Gayle looked all set to get to the three-figure mark. But Archer had different ideas as he nailed a brilliant yorker to castle the big man. Normally, Gayle doesn’t react much but this time around, he was extremely disappointed and looked pissed at the dismissal. He swung his bat in disappointment and it literally slipped off his hand to fly towards short mid-wicket.
However, the southpaw gathered himself soon and while walking back, held his helmet high celebrating his exceptional knock. Rather he also appreciated the delivery from his countryman Archer after getting out showing great sportsman spirit.

On the back of Chris Gayle’s 99 off 63, the innings which was laced with six fours and eight massive maximums, KXIP managed to post a mammoth total of 185 runs in their 20 overs. KL Rahul also batted well to score 46 runs while Nicholas Pooran scored a quickfire 22 off 10 balls with three sixes to his name.
