Delhi Capitals returns to the top of the points table with a close 13-run win against the Rajasthan Royals in Dubai. Shikhar Dhawan smashed a 33-ball 57 despite early breakthroughs helping Delhi to score at 8 runs an over. Shreyas Iyer anchored the inning with a 53-run knock but the Capitals scored only 29 runs in last four overs and finished on 161/7. Royals stood 95/3 after 11 overs with the required rate reading just over seven. But wickets in regular intervals slowed down Rajasthan’s scoring rate and made the chase an impossible one.

Delhi’s winning streak:

5 – The win during DC vs RR is now the 5th consecutive victory for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL against the Rajasthan Royals. This winning streak of Delhi franchise against the Royals began after their seven successive defeats across four seasons.


Dhawan’s record fifty:

39Shikhar Dhawan now has 39 fifties in the IPL which are the most by any Indian and the 2nd most by any player in the league. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Suresh Raina; all have scored exactly 38 fifties in the IPL while David Warner is ahead of all with 46 fifties.

In terms of 50+ scores in the IPL, Dhawan’s 39 fifty-plus scores are only behind David Warner (50 including 4 100s) and Virat Kohli (43 including 5 100s).

6 – Shikhar Dhawan has six fifties in the IPL against the Rajasthan Royals which are the 2nd most by any player against the Royals in this league. AB de Villiers has as many as seven fifties against Royals while no other player has even five half-centuries against the Rajasthan franchise. Dhawan scored 547 runs against the Royals in the league which are the 3rd most behind Suresh Raina (609) and AB de Villiers (593).


Royals start with a wicket:

2 – The DC vs RR is only 2nd instance where Rajasthan Royals picked up a wicket on the very first ball of an IPL match. Back in the 2008 season, Sohail Tanvir got the better of CSK’s Parthiv Patel in Jaipur which was also the first-ever instance of a wicket on the first ball of an IPL game.

2015Prithvi Shaw is only the 4th player to be dismissed on the first ball of an IPL match while playing for the Delhi Capitals/Daredevils. The last of the previous three was Mayank Agarwal in 2015 when he was caught behind in the bowling of MI’s Lasith Malinga at the Wankhede Stadium.


A tight spell from Ashwin:

30Ravichandran Ashwin now has conceded 20 or fewer runs in an IPL match on 30 occasions while bowling full four overs. Amit Mishra has conceded 20 or fewer runs in four overs of an IPL game on 31 instances which are the most by any player. Ashwin went past Sunil Narine (29) in this list during the DC vs RR.

4 – The wicket of Steve Smith was Ravichandran Ashwin’s 9th Twenty20 wicket via caught and bowled but his 4th such scalp in the IPL. His previous ‘c & b’ wicket in the IPL came back in 2013 when he dismissed RR’s Dishant Yagnik at Chepauk.


Rahane’s rare clash against the Royals:

2 – The DC vs RR is only the 2nd instance of Ajinkya Rahane playing an IPL match against the Rajasthan Royals. Rahane represented Mumbai Indians in the 2009 edition while playing against the Royals. Between these two matches, Rahane featured in exactly 100 IPL games for the Rajasthan Royals.
