IPL 2020: Reason behind Ishan Kishan not playing the MI vs CSK game
Tiwary fared decently in the absence of Ishan Kishan.
The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) began with both Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) coming out with surprises in their playing XIs. While the CSK didn’t pick Dwayne Bravo and Imran Tahir in their line-up, the defending champions left out the talented batsman Ishan Kishan and preferred Saurabh Tiwary in the XI.
From experts to fans, all were surprised to see Tiwary playing the game despite his last IPL appearance coming way back in the 2017 season for the same franchise. However, it has been revealed that the main reason behind Kishan not playing is his shoulder niggle. Rohit Sharma mentioned only the foreign players in the XI after the toss and it was quite a shock for many after they came to know about Ishan Kishan’s absence.
The news was revealed by Kiran More while doing Hindi commentary during the first innings. Having said that, Saurabh Tiwary fared decently coming into bat at four. He scored 42 off just 31 balls with three fours and a six and has clearly made a case for himself in the future matches. Rather he turned out to be the top run-scorer for MI in their innings.
How many matches will Ishan Kishan out?
Meanwhile, there will be a concern in the MI camp over the injury issue to one of their main players and it remains to be seen when he returns to the line-up. As of now, there is no idea when he will be fit and with Saurabh Tiwary doing well in the opening game, the team management will be revealed. Moreover, Tiwary might even continue to play even after Kishan is available given that the latter didn’t have a great season last year. He had scored only 106 runs in six innings at a strike-rate of only 101.
The injury concerns for the defending champions don’t end here as even the Australian recurit Nathan Coulter-Nile has a bit of a niggle and for the same reason, he didn’t play. James Pattinson got a chance in the line-up and it will be interesting to see how he fares on his debut for Mumbai Indians.
