IPL 2020: Team-wise list of players to miss first week of the tournament
Rajasthan Royals will miss six of their foreign players.
The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to commence on September 19 behind closed doors. The postponement of the T20 World Cup has provided the tournament with a full window. Even the foreign players will be available for the whole season. However, the pandemic has forced for certain series to be rescheduled and as a result, players from England and Australia are set to miss the first week of the T20 extravaganza.
ECB and Cricket Australia (CA) confirmed the limited-overs (3 ODIs and 3 T20Is) on Friday. Australia’s England tour is set to end on September 16 and after that, the IPL-bound players from both the teams will fly to the UAE. England didn’t pick the likes of Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer for Ireland ODIs as they were resting ahead of the Pakistan series.
However, there is every possibility of the trio making it to the squad for the series against Australia. The confirmation of this series comes as a huge blow for the franchises. It has been cleared that there will be no leeway in quarantine norms for those players flying in from England as they are moving from one bubble to other. This will lead to them missing the first few days of action in the IPL.
Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals to suffer the most
As many as 20 IPL-bound players will be involved in the ODI and T20I series to played between England and Australia. The Rajasthan Royals (RR) literally thrive on the cricketers from these two countries with their skipper being Steve Smith. Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Jofra Archer, Tom Curran and Andrew Tye are the other five players whom the franchise will miss at the start of the tournament.
Delhi Capitals (DC) will miss three of their players, Jason Roy, Alex Carey and Marcus Stoinis while Chris Woakes has already pulled out of the IPL. The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will also suffer as the likes of Pat Cummins, Eoin Morgan and Tom Banton will arrive late for the T20 tournament. Mumbai Indians (MI) is the only team not to suffer and their all players will be available for selection as Nathan Coulter Nile hasn’t been picked in Australia squad.
