IPL 2020: Twitterati unhappy with KXIP and Glenn Maxwell after defeat against SRH
Maxwell has 48 runs from six games in IPL 2020 at a dismal average and strike-rate of 12 and 85.71 respectively.
Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) haven’t had a happy journey in the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL) by any stretch of the imagination. The team, led by KL Rahul, are currently placed eighth in the points table with only a solitary victory from their six outings. Barring their 97-run victory over the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), the Mohali-based franchise have had a tough time.
Even in their last match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), KXIP flattered to deceive and lost by 69 runs. After winning the toss and electing to bat first, the Sunrisers racked up 201 for the loss of six wickets in their 20 overs. David Warner’s 52 and Jonny Bairstow’s 97, in a 160-run stand for the opening wicket, set the platform for the Orange Army to get a substantial score.
Though KXIP picked up a flurry of wickets in the last five overs, the damage had already been done. In their run-chase, Nicholas Pooran impressed one again, scoring 77 runs off 37 balls with the help of five fours and seven sixes. In one of the overs, the southpaw also smashed the 18-year-old Abdul Samad for 28 runs, including one four and four humongous hits into the stands.
To his dismay, he didn’t get adequate support from his partners. After Pooran, KL Rahul and Simran Singh were the top run-scorers for KXIP with 11 runs. After the Caribbean batter perished to Rashid Khan, the writing was on the walls for Punjab, whose dismal campaign in the IPL continued.
KXIP and Maxwell fail again
Glenn Maxwell hasn’t hit his straps thus far in the T20 tournament. In six matches, the Victorian has 48 runs at a dismal average and strike-rate of 12 and 85.71 respectively. Last time around when the IPL took place in the UAE, Maxwell showed his class, but this time around, he has failed miserably.
With the ball, he has one wicket. Before the game against SRH, he was set to be replaced by Chris Gayle. But unfortunately, the latter got sick and couldn’t make the playing eleven. In the meantime, Twitterati don’t seen happy with how KXIP and Maxwell have done until now in the T20 league.
