The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to host the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in India across six venues namely Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata from April 9 to May 30. Rajasthan Royals had finished as the wooden-spooners in IPL 2020 with just 12 points under their belt from 14 games.

This was the first time that the franchise had finished at the last position in the points table in the 13-year history of the league. Thus, the Royals were looking forward to making a strong comeback in the 2021 edition of the T20 Extravaganza. However, ahead of the marquee event, RR has been dealt with a massive blow as it is learned that one of the pillars of the team in recent years, Jofra Archer can pull his name out of the event.

Jofra has been suffering from an elbow injury for quite some time now. In the same light, the seamer had given the second and fourth Test of the four-match series against India a miss and is also expected to warm the bench in the three-match ODI series, starting from March 23 in Pune. Thus, the reports suggest that the right-arm seamer can miss the IPL 2021 to give time to his body to recover and prepare himself for the busy cricket year for England in 2021.

Jofra Archer was named the MVP for IPL 2020

The information regarding the same was given by Wisden Cricket as they also revealed that Archer will be soon undergoing a third injection for his injured right elbow.

“According to the Telegraph, Jofra Archer is likely to pull out of this year’s IPL in an attempt to get himself fit for England action. The report states that he will have a third injection on a troublesome right elbow. He was the IPL’s Player of the Tournament in 2020” Wisden Cricket tweeted.

The absence of Jofra can be a massive blow for Rajasthan Royals as in 2020, Archer had emerged as the Most Valuable Player of the tournament. In 14 games, the England speedster picked a whopping 20 wickets.
