IPL 2021: Match 11, DC vs PBKS – Delhi Capitals Player Ratings
With the win, Rishabh Pant’s men moved to second in the points table.
Delhi Capitals (DC) notched their second win of the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL) as they beat the Punjab Kings (PBKS) by six wickets at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. On Sunday, April 18, after winning the toss and electing to field, the Capitals found themselves under trouble.
KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal stitched together a 122-run partnership for the opening wicket off a mere 12.4 overs. But DC’s bowlers pulled things back and restricted PBKS to 195 in 20 overs. In the run-chase, the Capitals’ batters never allowed the required rate to get out of hand.
In the end, they won the game with as many as 10 balls to spare. With the win, Rishabh Pant’s men moved to second in the points table. As far as PBKS are concerned, they went down to the seventh position with a net run rate of -0.483.
Here are the DC Player Ratings for the DC vs PBKS match:
Prithvi Shaw- 7/10
Prithvi Shaw failed against the Royals, but instead of going into his shell, he came out firing on all cylinders. The right-hander scored 32 runs off 17 balls before Arshdeep Singh accounted for his wicket.
Shikhar Dhawan- 9.5/10
Shikhar Dhawan did the chunk of the scoring for the Capitals. He opened the batting and went on to notch 92 runs off 49 balls with 13 fours and two sixes. It was Jhye Richardson, who rattled his woodwork in the 15th over.
Steve Smith- 2/10
Steve Smith didn’t quite have an auspicious debut for the Capitals. He toiled hard for 12 balls and got only nine runs. Riley Meredith got rid of him when he tried to play a rather ugly shot to break the shackles.
Rishabh Pant- 6/10
Rishabh Pant didn’t have the day he would have expected to have with the bat in hand. The southpaw got 15 runs at less than a run-a-ball before Jhye Richardson got rid of him. But he was prudent in his decision-making as DC’s skipper.
Marcus Stoinis- 7.5/10
Marcus Stoinis came to bat with the Capitals already on the drivers’ seat. The right-hander stayed not out on 27 runs off 13 balls. His knock was laced with three fours and one six as he saw his team through.
Lukman Meriwala- 5.5/10
Lukman Meriwala bowled reasonably on his Capitals’ debut. In three overs, he gave away 32 runs at an economy rate of 10.66. The left-arm fast bowler picked up his only wicket in the form of Mayank Agarwal.
Lalit Yadav- 4/10
Lalit Yadav didn’t quite have much to do in the match. He bowled a solitary over where he conceded 11 runs with one dot ball. With the bat in hand, he stayed unbeaten on 12 runs off six balls with two fours.
Chris Woakes- 6/10
Chris Woakes was expensive with the ball as he leaked runs at an economy rate of 10.50. His only success came when he nipped out Chris Gayle for 11. He was hit for five fours and a couple of sixes.
Ravi Ashwin- 8.5/10
Ravi Ashwin can be said as the standout bowler for DC, though he couldn’t get a wicket. In four overs, the off-spinner gave away a mere 28 runs at an economy of seven, never allowing the opposition batters to dictate terms.
Kagiso Rabada- 5.5/10
Kagiso Rabada picked up the wicket of KL Rahul, but he looked out of sorts. Mayank Agarwal was severe on him with some classy stroke-play. In four overs, Rabada gave away 43 runs and bowled eight dot balls.
Avesh Khan- 7.5/10
Avesh Khan was the pick of the Capitals’ bowlers on the day. The pacer bowled at an economy rate of 8.25 to go with nine dot deliveries. The right-arm speedster also got the important wicket of Nicholas Pooran.
