A famous quote that says “Catches often win you matches” is as true as it can get. There have been several instances where an important and difficult catch at a crucial time has proved to change the entire complexion of a match. Not just catches but any sort of brilliance on the field tends to be very impactful. When it comes to the Indian Premier League (IPL), there have been several such instances too. Thus, the best catch of the tournament ends up winning an award as well. Even in this season of the IPL, fans have seen absolutely brilliant fielders go about their job silently. So much so that these fielders have managed to create an impact on the entirety of a match. So who have been the best fielders of IPL 2021 so far? Today we shall be- Ranking the top 10 fielders of IPL 2021 10) Riyan Parag Riyan Parag hasn’t really had the best of seasons so far. The youngster has been woeful with the bat. Despite getting a long run, he is yet to do anything substantial with the bat or the ball. However, he has a safe pair of hands and has been brilliant on the field. His precision at such a tender age is commendable. It all started during the first phase of IPL 2021 where he took a few catches in the game against KKR. Alongside his celebration, his catching skills were appreciated. This continued in the second phase of IPL 2021 as well. His brilliant run out to dismiss Virat Kohli was praised by one and all. 9) Glenn Maxwell Glenn Maxwell. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Glenn Maxwell is having a stellar season so far. Whatever he has touched so far has turned to gold. Batting, bowling, and even fielding, he has ticked every box on his column. Traditionally known as one of the best fielders of this era, the all-rounder has lived up to his reputation. So far, he has taken 4 catches. One of them being a sensational catch to dismiss Shivam Dube. This catch was so good that it has even been nominated for the “Perfect Catch of The Season Award”. It was in the third ball of the 15th over when he took this amazing catch. 8) Rahul Tripathi Rahul Tripathi. However, it is this season where he has managed to grab the headlines on a consistent basis. While his batting has been brilliant, his fielding has been breathtaking as well. The top-order batsman has taken 6 catches in this season so far. One of them being an absolutes brilliant one to dismiss Virat Kohli. It came during the first phase of IPL 2021. He was fielding within the 30-yard circle but had to run a long way in order to catch that ball which was mistimed by the RCB captain. He even dived towards the end to get it. Thus it has been nominated for the “Perfect Catch of The Season Award” 7) Virat Kohli Virat Kohli fielding. It isn’t just his batting and captaincy which has helped him to be rated so highly amongst the fans. As a matter of fact, he has been one of the best fielders of this era as well. Fans have seen him take some absolute stunners across several seasons. The best part about his fielding is the fact that he can field at slips, within the 30-yard circle as well as the long-off region. One of the secrets behind his success is his game awareness to always have his fingers underneath the ball. He has picked some beautiful catches in this season as well. He has two catches that have been nominated for the “Perfect Catch of The Season Award”. He has taken 7 catches in IPL 2021 so far. 6) Fabian Allen Fabian Allen Catch. (Photo Source: Disney + Hotstar) Fabian Allen is a complete package, to say the least. His athleticism has helped him pick some absolute blinders on the field. Like several other Caribbean cricketers, he has a safe pair of hands. Despite not getting a longer run in Punjab’s XI this season. He has made significant contributions as a fielder already. Despite having taken just the two catches so far, both of them have been absolutely breathtaking. His catch against RR was probably one of the best that one would ever see. The ball was flying to the right of the all-rounder at deep mid-wicket. He then put a full-length dive and got two hands to it. 5) Rahul Tewatia Rahul Tewatia. (Photo Source: Twitter) Rahul Tewatia is nothing short of a magician. He just makes things happen on the field. Despite not being at his best with the bat, he has been sensational on the field. Fans got a glimpse of his superb potential as a fielder when he took that awesome catch to dismiss Kohli in the previous season in 2020. However, his fielding skills have become even better this time around. The all-rounder took two memorable catches this season. One of them came against PBKS when he took a brilliant catch to dismiss KL Rahul. The fact that it came in the final over when the PBKS skipper was batting on 91 made it even better. He took it right at the edge of the boundary rope only for him to toss the ball in the air, go outside the rope, come back and take that catch cleanly once again. 4) Kane Williamson Kane Williamson. (Photo Source: Disney + Hotstar) Kane Williamson has been an underrated fielder. Because of his sensational batting and captaincy, his fielding skills haven’t got their due share of appreciation. However, his fielding has been superb this season. Another reason why it hasn’t been highlighted much is due to the poor form of his team. Nevertheless, there have been some memorable instances of his fielding. The SRH skipper has taken 5 catches in this season so far. Along with the catches, there have been several instances where he has saved a couple of runs. Be it on the boundary rope or inside the 30-yard circle, he always gives his 100 percent. His commitment is definitely praiseworthy. 3) Faf Du Plessis Faf du Plessis catch. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Faf is unarguably one of the best fielders of this era. The ball doesn’t find him but he’s the one who finds the ball. The former SA skipper has made it a habit to regularly pick stunners. His ability to take breathtaking catches has now become a norm. It becomes absurd if fans get a CSK match without a Faf stunner. The CSK opener has picked 8 catches in IPL 2021 so far. It would be surprising if he doesn’t add to his tally of catches in the remainder of the season. He would have definitely made it to the top of the list if not for his drop catch of Pollard which ultimately cost his team two points. Nevertheless, he too has a catch which has been nominated for the “Perfect Catch of The Season Award”. 2) Ravi Bishnoi Ravi Bishnoi fielding. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Ravi Bishnoi has become the talk of the town. Despite being just a teenager, he is already a sensation. Whenever he has played, he has made an impact. However, alongside his bowling, it is his fielding that has been praiseworthy too. So much so that both his catches have been nominated for the “Perfect Catch of The Season Award”. It would be surprising if he doesn’t win the award this time around. The reason why several cricket pundits feel he should win the award is that his catch to dismiss Sunil Narine wasn’t just a stunner but seemed impossible at first glance. He had to run from a long distance and then dived full length to take this blinder of a catch. 1) Ravindra Jadeja Ravindra Jadeja. (Photo Source: Twitter) Ravindra Jadeja has undoubtedly been one of the greatest fielders the cricketing world has ever seen. His fielding abilities are an inspiration for budding cricketers. Be it at any fielding position, one can trust him to take a catch or effect a run out without a doubt. Thus, he tops this list and is the best fielder of IPL 2021 so far. The southpaw has taken 10 catches in the tournament so far. Including the run-outs and runs saved by him, he could very well cement a spot in the XI as a specialist fielder itself. He took an absolute stunner to dismiss the Universe Boss Chris Gayle. This was inside the 30-yard circle. He has another stunner against the Royals which came near the boundary rope, thus, showing his versatility as a fielder.
