Many of these rookies climbed up the ladder magnificently to be in the Indian squad for the upcoming international fixtures. This season was full of surprises as well as the two big guns of IPL i.e. Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians were made to sit at the bottom of the points tables by other teams. While the two new teams i.e. Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants qualified for the playoffs in their debut season.
Finishing the game is an ‘art’ in the T20 format. IPL 2022 was graced with some amazing finishers. The ability to stay right till the end with a healthy strike rate and clinch the game with some marvellous hitting has been a weapon that every team aspires to have. The consummate artist of finishing games who has given us enough displays of his brilliance is the veteran MS Dhoni. In this season too he showed us that he still has got what it takes to seal the deal when things go down the wire. Many new faces excellently fulfilled the responsibility of finishing the game on numerous occasions this season.
Here’s a list of 5 players who emerged as finishers this season:
1. Liam Livingstone
Punjab Kings had an average IPL 2022, but one player who made the maximum impact for them was the Englishman, Liam Livingstone. He has been one of the most valuable players of this season. His sheer talent of putting the ball miles into the stand at will makes him a brutal middle-order batter. He finished games for Punjab Kings and was their standout performer as well this season.
Punjab Kings bagged the services of Livingstone for a mighty price of INR 11.5 cr in the mega auction ahead of IPL 2022. His numbers reflect his hefty price as he contributed decently for them in both the departments of the game. He scored a total of 437 runs scoring at an impressive strike rate of 182.08 and made four half-centuries as well.
When it comes to brute force, Liam Livingstone is an embodiment of that, he proved it when he had hit the longest six of IPL 2022 which was 117m, Mohammed Shami was at the receiving end. He clobbered 34 sixes during this season, only behind the purple cap holder Jos Buttler. The cherry on the cake was his handy spin bowling. He scalped 6 wickets and his best figures of this season were 3/27.
