IPL: 5 instances when MS Dhoni was involved in a controversy
Despite having a huge amount of respect in world cricket as well as in IPL, there have been instances when Dhoni's name was there in some serious controversies.
3. Post-match comments about Dwayne Smith’s dismissal in 2015
MS Dhoni was seen losing his cool while he showed his disappointment against an umpire’s decision in 2015. In the first qualifier of IPL 2015, the Chennai Super Kings clashed with Mumbai Indians as they were the two teams who finished at the first two positions of the points table. CSK lost the game by 25 runs at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
During the very first over of CSK’s innings, Dwayne Smith was given out LBW by the umpire off Lasith Malinga’s bowling. The replays showed that the ball would have gone down the leg side by a good margin. After the completion of the game, MS Dhoni said, “We lost the momentum in the middle, and not to forget Smith got a horrible decision” at the post-match presentation ceremony.
MS was found breaking the code of conduct according to Article 2.1.7 for players and team officials. Dhoni admitted the Level 1 offense and accepted the sanction. He was fined 10% of his match fee for inappropriate public comments to an umpire’s decision. The media created a big hype of this news back then.
