IPL: 5 Players Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) can retain after AB de Villiers' retirement
De Villiers joined RCB back in 2011 and was a stalwart for them.
4. KS Bharat
The wicketkeeper-batter was the final piece in Virat Kohli’s jigsaw puzzle, which was going to win RCB the title in the 2021 season. That didn’t happen, but the fact that RCB found a gem of a player in Bharat can’t be underestimated. With AB de Villiers now retired, RCB would need to fix a good keeper behind the stumps who can contribute with the bat as well.
In the past, RCB has struggled to fill gaps behind the stumps with someone who can also score runs regularly. That is the very reason why ABD had to start keeping in order to improve the balance of this side. However, the former legend’s burden was decreased when Bharat came into the team this season, towards the second half of the season.
In eight matches, he scored 191 runs with an average of 38.20 and a strike rate of 122.43. His last-ball six gave RCB possibly the most thrilling win of the season right at the end. He is 28 years old and has been one of the leading wicketkeepers in the domestic scene for some time now. Given that, he seems like a good option.
