IPL 9: Points table, Purple Cap, Orange Cap and fixtures after the KXIP v DD Match 36

IPL 9 is now getting towards its business end when all teams are closing in to get to the playoffs stage. The Rising Pune Supergiants suffered their 7th defeat of the tournament and are now almost out of the race for the playoffs. They have to defend on the results of every other game from here on to have any chance to make it to the playoffs. Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated them and have kept their hopes alive. Skipper Virat Kohli will be a happy man at the moment but will know there is a long way to go.

Delhi Daredevils suffered yet another defeat and are faltering at the wrong time. They, however, maintain their 3rd position in the points table. Kings XI Punjab defeated the Daredevils to have 3 wins under their belt now but still languish at the bottom of the points table owing to a poor net run rate. Four teams will be in action today and expect changes in the points table after the Super Sunday encounters.

Virat Kohli has extended a mile-long lead in the Orange Cap list with a scintillating century against the RPS last night. The Indian batsman scored his second century of the season and now has 541 runs to his name. RPS opener Ajinkya Rahane has jumped to the second spot with a gritty 74 off 48 that he scored in a losing cause against RCB. He has 417 runs in 10 matches with 6 half centuries.

Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Gautam Gambhir will have an opportunity tonight against the Gujarat Lions to possible claim the second spot if he scores 25 more runs.

Andre Russell and Mitch McClenaghan take the top two spots in the Purple Cap list with 13 wickets each. A better economy rate gives Russell the Purple Cap at the moment. Sunrisers Hyderabad bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar is just one wicket behind after he took 2/28 in the match against the Lions. His bowling partner Mustafizur Rahman bowled excellently well in the same match to return with figures of 2/17 and is currently at the 7th position in the list.

Shane Watson, with a 3-wicket haul against the RPS, has jumped to the 4th spot with 12 wickets to his name.
