IPL Auction 2022: List of players sold, unsold, purse and slots remaining after first day
Ishan Kishan was the most expensive player on Day 1 of the bidding event, having bagged INR 15.25 crore from Mumbai Indians.
The opening day of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction was indeed action-packed. Players from different nations and categories went under the hammer and the 10 franchises made some interesting picks. While several players fetched massive amounts, several notable names went unsold. All franchises have more or the less have formed their team’s core in the first day and the second day of the event will see sides finalizing their squads.
For the unversed, IPL 2022 will be a grand affair as for the first time since 2014, more than eight teams will in action. With a two-day mega auction being in schedule, the eight existing sides were allowed to retain a maximum of just four players. As far as the two new teams – Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans – are concerned, they picked three players apiece from the list of non-retained players. IPL 2022 Auction Live Updates.
Ishan Kishan became Mumbai Indians’ most-expensive buy in IPL history
A total of INR 90 crore was allotted to each side. However, the teams stepped into the bidding event with different amounts, depending upon the retentions and draft picks they made. Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan was the most expensive player on Day 1 of the bidding event.
Five-time winners Mumbai Indians splashed a whooping 15.25 crore to reacquire his services. Deepak Chahar was second in the list of most-expensive players as his former team Chennai Super Kings bought him for INR 14 crore. The likes of Shreyas Iyer, Harshal Patel, Wanindu Hasaranga, Avesh Khan, Nicholas Pooran and Shardul Thakur were the other names to bag over 10 crore in the opening day.
Meanwhile, the uncapped players were up for grabs in the latter part of the day and some of them fetched substantial amounts. In fact, pacer Avesh Khan became the most expensive uncapped player in IPL history, having bagged INR 10 crore from Lucknow Super Giants. The likes of Shahrukh Khan and Rahul Tripathi bagged INR 9 crore and INR 8.5 crore from Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad respectively.
