Irfan Pathan wished everyone could watch Yusuf bat
"I wish the game was live on TV, every cricket lover would have enjoyed it,” Irfan wrote.
Indian cricketer and Baroda domestic skipper Irfan Pathan took on to Twitter as he congratulated his brother and teammate Yusuf Pathan on scoring twin centuries. All-rounder Yusuf began the Ranji Trophy 2017-18 season with a bang as he struck centuries in each innings against Madhya Pradesh in the opening encounter of the season.
The 34-year-old who was a part of the Indian World Cup winning squad smashed an amazing 111 runs in the first innings followed by another ton in the second innings. It also marked his 10th hundred in first-class cricket. Yusuf stitched an unbelievable partnership of 188 runs with his brother Irfan Pathan after Baroda were reduced to 54/4. While they still failed to avoid the follow-on, they managed to cross the 300-run mark. Yusuf during his knock hit 13 boundaries and 6 sixes.
The Baroda batsmen struggled again to gather runs in the second innings as they were left reeling at 68/7 with 181 more runs required to avoid an innings defeat. ‘Cometh the hour, cometh the man’. Yusuf Pathan struck a significant century again as he along with Atif Sheth put up a 200+ run stand to make sure the deficit was cleared.
However, this isn’t the first time that Yusuf has scored century in both innings of a first-class game. Way back in the 2010 Duleep Trophy final, he had scored a ton and a double century to help West Zone chase a record 541-run total. He became only the sixth Baroda player to achieve the feat then.
It was also a proud moment for Irfan. He congratulated Yusuf on Twitter. The all-rounder who also scored a half century in the first innings tweeted, “Back to back 100 in a game.outstanding batting Lala @iamyusufpathan I wish the game was live on tv every cricket lover would have enjoyed it.”
