Ishan Porel’s Coach suggests him to skip Vijay Hazare Trophy to recover fully from injury
The youngster has been tipped for greatness by many including his coach.
Indian Under-19 Medium- Pacer Ishan Porel impressed one and all with his wicket-taking abilities in the recently concluded World Cup.But, his struggles with injuries continued throughout the tournament. He played through the final three knockout games of the ICC U-19 World Cup without being fully recovered from a foot injury.
His coach Bibhash Das said on Saturday: “It’s was not exactly an ankle injury. He has a tear on the outstep of his left leg. It’s only because of the advanced treatment in New Zealand that he could play in the final three matches.Such a kind of injury would normally take a minimum three weeks to recover. He had a tissue rupture and put an insole in his shoe before bowling,’’ Das told the media.

Ishan Porel hails from Chandannagar, a town in Howrah District which is 52 kilometers from Kolkata.Das reiterated that Porel should refrain from playing the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy domestic tournament so that he doesn’t aggravate his injury. His coach further added that:` `He bowled with pain in his foot and is yet to recover fully.I suggest he should not be playing the Vijay Hazare Trophy or at least not the first few games. He needs time to heal.’’
India had a superb run in the World Cup, winning all their six matches. Porel chipped in with crucial wickets in the middle overs in the games he played. In fact, Porel picked up two crucial wickets in the Final of openers Jack Edwards and Max Bryant finishing with figures of 2 for 30 of seven overs.
India raced to their target of 217 runs with relative ease.India rode on opener Manjot Kalra’s unbeaten 101 to thump Australia by eight wickets in the Final played at Tauranga in New Zealand. Australia started their innings well but regular wickets in the middle overs pegged them back. They eventually finished with an under par score of 216.Jonathan Merlo top scored with a 102 –ball 76. Indian chase was on track right from the word go as Kalra played a majestic knock and was well supported by Harvik Desai who remained unbeaten on 47.
The youngster hogged the limelight when he had a sensational burst against archrivals Pakistan picking up 4 wickets for just 17 runs in six overs. Das has been a constant source of motivation for Ishan Porel through his tough times as he struggled with injuries before making a comeback against Bangladesh.
Porel could bowl only 4.1 overs against Australia in India’s opening game and had to leave the field. Porel missed out on the games against Papua New Guinea and Zimbabwe before making a comeback against Bangladesh in the quarter-final.He didn’t get a wicket in the game but bowled economically finishing with figures of 5-2-8-0.
Das touched upon the fact that Porel’s main strength is his pace and the bounce he generates.Das signed off by saying that Porel’s next aim should be to play the senior World Cup in 2019. Meanwhile, Porel’s father, Chandranath termed Porel’s return as a ‘fairy-tale’.The celebrations at his para (neighborhood) after India’s victory is a big tribute to his tenacity and the all round show by the ‘Boys in Blue’.
