‘It just brings out so many emotions’ – Robin Uthappa on India vs Pakistan clashes
Robin Uthappa was a part of India's 2007 T20 World Cup-winning squad.
Cricket fans worldwide have marked their calendars with the T20 World Cup 2021 set to get underway in October in UAE. It won’t be wrong to say that the 20-over format has become a fan favourite in the last few years with the games never tending to slow down. Hence, one should get ready to witness some exciting action in the upcoming global event.
While many significant games are scheduled to take place in the T20 World Cup, the India vs Pakistan contest has to be the most awaited fixture. The Indo-Pak clashes are high-voltage, to say the least with both nations having no shortage of cricket lovers. With so much at stakes, expectations are sky-high from the players. Speaking of the same, veteran Indian batsman Robin Uthappa explained how emotions play a part in these games.
People always look forward to India vs Pakistan clashes: Robin Uthappa
“It just brings out so many emotions, expectations and people always look forward to it. I think any cricketer who has played in the past or anyone who looks to play for India is always looking forward to an India-Pakistan game. Because it brings out a lot of emotions – at least for the people who watch the game, more than the people playing it,” Uthappa said to Star Sports.
Notably, India defeated Pakistan twice on their road to glory in the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007. In one of those games, Uthappa scored a brilliant century facing a potent bowling attack. The arch-rivals event met in the finals of the tournament where India walked away with a five-run win.
While Uthappa called that triumph special, he opined that one should move on from that tournament with another T20 World in the pipeline. He also backed the Virat Kohli-led side to taste the glory in the global event this year.
“Of course, for me personally, it’s a special moment, but I tend to agree with Gautam Gambhir (on the opinion of moving on from that win). I think we have achieved that in 20007, so we know that is achievable,” he added. Notably, India emerged victorious every single time Pakistan met them in a World Cup event. Hence, it would be interesting to see how their fixture in UAE unfolds.
