Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami have been amazing for a while now: Dale Steyn
Dale Steyn mentioned that a class team is the one that wins in away conditions and India is doing that currently.
India won the first Test against South Africa by 113 runs after the Proteas batters could make only 191 runs in the second innings. It was India’s only fourth win in South Africa, two of which have come against in the last two tours under Virat Kohli’s leadership. The Indian bowlers were at their level best throughout the game.
Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah shared a total of 13 wickets out of 20 picked by the Indian bowlers. Shami picked a fifer in the first innings and completed his 200 wickets in his Test career, he followed it up with a three-wicket haul in the second innings. Bumrah twisted his ankle while bowling in the first innings and could bowl only 7.2 overs.
After India won the match, Dale Steyn took to Twitter to congratulate the Indian team. Steyn also mentioned that he was really impressed with the way the Indian team has played on the last two tours to South Africa. He also mentioned that a class team is the one that wins in away conditions and India is doing that currently.
“Well done India. Over the last few tours to SA they’ve been more and more impressive. Winning away from home is what makes a world-class team, that’s what they currently doing. Congratulations,” Steyn said.
Dale Steyn deconstructed Bumrah and Shami for the fans
Cricket humorist Vikram Sathaye asked Steyn to deconstruct Bumrah and Shami for the fans from his point of view on Twitter. Steyn said that both of them have been playing amazingly well for the team and they bowled attacking lines and lengths in the first Test. He also said that the duo used the conditions very well.
“Bumrah and Shami have been amazing for a while now, big keys for them, they bowl attacking lines & lengths (constantly) and move the ball very LATE. Day 1 vs Day 3/4/5 is a massive difference, the deck speeds up and things happen way faster. They were smart and used conditions well,” Steyn said.
“More detailed response. Bumrah has a unique action that does make him tricky to face, a good pace too! Shami has a great wrist & always threatens the outside & inside edge with that wonderful seam. MOST importantly, they experienced & NOW know how to take wickets! Cant teach that,” he added.
