Karun Nair talks about his equation with the team management
As the second-only triple centurion for India after Virender Sehwag, one would've expected to see more of him in present times.
Indian batsman Karun Nair became one of the most celebrated cricketers back in 2016 when he scored a magnificent triple century in Chennai against England in the fifth Test of the series. As the second-only triple centurion for India, one would’ve expected to see more of him in present times. Nair recently chose to open up on his equation with the team management and how he’s coping with missed chances.
After the unbeaten innings of 303 runs back in December 2016, Nair has been part of just three Tests for India. Chances have appeared to be slim for him and in spite of good performances at the domestic level, the 26-year old hasn’t quite been able to make a breakthrough into the Indian team. At this moment, Nair feels that it’s time to move on from the triple century.
Karun Nair opens up on not being selected into national team
In an interview with Cricbuzz, Nair spoke at length about how he’s dealt with non-selection issues and said, “It’s just the way it is. The team management and everyone else make their decisions and you as players have to respect it and move forward with that. Like I said, all I can do is let the bat do the talking, and I wouldn’t like to say anything else on that.”
On being inquired if he’s been in talks with the team management regarding how he could improve his game to get back on the wagon, Nair’s answer was straight and simple. “No, we haven’t had any conversations. Nothing at all,” said the Karnataka batsman. Nair went on to say that he’s not had any communication at all from the side of the selection panel and the management and while that’s difficult, he also admitted to not having gone forth and inquiring himself.
The batsman, when asked about how players coming into the mix after him have become a part of the squad while he’s still looking for a sure footing, said, “It is difficult, naturally for a human being, it’s difficult to handle that situation, or to take that as a human being. But like I said before, the team management and everyone else involved make a decision, and me as a player has to accept it. There’s nothing else I can do. Like I said before that whenever I get an opportunity, I will let the bat do the talking. I can’t be saying anything else on that.”
