Kevin Pietersen takes funny dig at Nasser Hussain when he asks Pakistan fans on England-India clash
Will Pakistan manage to repeat 1992?
Sporting events do not just bring out the best of skills in the players but also the sense of humour in the experts. On Wednesday, such an instance was visible on social media after former England captain Nasser Hussain sought on opinions of Pakistan fans on the big clash between the hosts and India at Edgbaston this Sunday. However, before he could get a reply from the target audience, somebody else chipped in with a leg-pulling gesture.
Pakistan defeated New Zealand by 6 wickets in a crucial fixture at Edgbaston on Wednesday to keep themselves alive in the race for the semi-finals. The Men in Green have now seven points from as many games and they will benefit immensely if England lose their remaining two matches. The Three Lions, who lost two back-to-back matches to Sri Lanka and Australia, have eight points from seven games and have to win their last two league games.
Eoin Morgan’s team takes on New Zealand at Chester-le-Street on July 3 in their final league match. Pakistan supporters will be hoping for an Indian win for that will give them a golden opportunity to enter the top four by winning their next game which is against bottom-placed Afghanistan and pip England.
The reply to Hussain’s question to the Pakistani fans as to which team they would back on Sunday was hence obvious. But another former England captain Kevin Pietersen, who is known for his mischievous takes, turned the question to the former himself, asking him who he would support.
To this, Hussain said he would support England, just like Pietersen backs England when they play South Africa in the game of rugby.
Hussain is Indian by berth, Pietersen a South African
It may be noted here that neither Hussain nor Pietersen are English by birth though they went on to captain that country in international cricket. While Hussain was born in Chennai (then Madras) in 1968, Pietersen was born in Pietermaritzburg in Natal, South Africa in 1980. Incidentally, Pietersen turned 39 on Thursday. The two cricketers thus had an exchange of banter over their support for the country they reside over their actual motherland.
