He is one of the current Indian players who is doing great in international cricket. The confidence is high following his rich exploits in the recent series and it showed when his captain tossed the ball to him to bowl the crucial final over against Delhi Capitals at Feroz Shah Kotla Ground on Saturday. Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav bowled an excellent final over against the DC, denying them just six runs off six balls and the game went into the super over. Although the KKR eventually lost the game by three runs, Kuldeep’s performance stood out in that game.

It was his performance in the 2017 IPL edition that earned him a call in the Indian limited overs side and he hasn’t looked back since. Today, Kuldeep is an asset for the India captain in all three formats and is one of the two Indian bowlers to have picked five wickets in all of them.

Speaking to Hindustan Times in an exclusive interview, Kuldeep reflected on his growth in the KKR camp and he did not forget to thank the side’s most successful captain till date – Gautam Gambhir.

‘KKR like a family to me’

“It has been 6 years now that I have been with Kolkata Knight Riders and they are like family to me. Everyone supports each other in the bunch. When I joined, Gautam Gambhir was the captain and Jacques Kallis was a senior player and continues to be our coach and I learnt a lot from them. Gauti bhai always motivated and supported me and always pushed me to reach the next level. I am a senior pro now and doing my job to help the team reach its goals and help them lift this beautiful trophy,” he said.

Kuldeep made his IPL debut for KKR in 2016, but cemented his place in the side in 2017. He picked up 12 wickets that year and the performance earned him a place in the Indian limited overs team. The youngster has not looked back since. The Uttar Pradesh bowler is known for his knack to pick up wickets and that quality has helped him thrive in international cricket and take the places of the more experienced Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, along with Yuzvendra Chahal.
