KL Rahul raises Rs 8 lakh to help underprivileged children by auctioning his cricket gears
He auctioned his jersey across all three formats, pads, helmet and bat.
The Coronavirus pandemic has left many helpless. The lockdown across the country has led to the poor and needy people struggling and the cricketers and the celebrities have come forward to help them during these tough times. The Indian cricketing fraternity is not behind in this kind gesture and the opener KL Rahul has auctioned his cricket gears now to raise funds for the welfare of children.
He joined hands with Bharat Army to put his Test, ODI and T20 jersey, bat, pads, helmet into the auction and the response it has got has been amazing. Rahul himself had made an announcement regarding the same on the occasion of his 28th birthday on April 18. He had mentioned that the money raised through the auction will go to the Aware Foundation which takes care of underprivileged and deprived children in India.
“I have decided to donate my cricket pads, my gloves, helmets and some of my jerseys to our collaboration partner Bharat Army. They are going to auction these things out and the funds will go towards the Aware Foundation. It’s a foundation that look towards helping children.
It is very special and I couldn’t pick a better day to do this. Go on check out the auction and show some love for me and the children and let’s stay strong together during this difficult time and all of us will come out of this stronger,” KL Rahul had said.
KL Rahul’s bat got the highest bid of Rs 2.64 lakh
Out of all of his cricket gears, the 28-year-old’s bat was the most sought after in the auction which received the highest bid of Rs 2,64,228 according to Times Now. KL Rahul’s Test, ODI and T20 jersey were sold for Rs 1,32,774, Rs 1,13,240 and Rs 1,04,824 respectively.
On the other hand, his pads got the least response among other cricket gears and was auctioned for Rs 33,028 while his helmet was sold for Rs 1,22,677. Overall, the cricketer’s gears, after auctioning, raised almost Rs 8 lakh (Rs 7,99,553 to be precise) which is a whopping amount.
As far as KL Rahul is concerned, he is confined to home during this lockdown and is passing his time playing with friends and interacting with fans on social media. He was supposed to make his captaincy debut in the IPL 2020 but the tournament has been suspended until further notice due to the ongoing pandemic.
