List of batsmen who made 100s in consecutive innings in World Cup: Making one century in a World Cup century is a big achievement in its own sense, but making 2, that too back to back must be one the very few achievements that a batsman can achieve. But there are a few batsman who have managed to make 2 centuries in 2 matches in a single World Cup tournament. Here is the list of batsmen who have scored 2 back to back centuries in a single World Cup tournament. Mark Waugh (Australia) 1996 MArk Waugh hit his 3rd century in the 1996 World cup in this match. (Photo Source: Getty Images) Mark Waugh became the first batsman in World Cup history to make 2 centuries on the trot. He did it against Kenya (130) in Vishakapatnam and India (126) in Mumbai. Australia won both the matches and went on to face Sri Lanka in the finals of the tournament. Mark Waugh actually scored a third century against New Zealand (110) in M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai (then Madras). He was also the first batsman ever to hit 3 centuries in one World Cup tournament in Wills World Cup 1996. Australia reached the finals of the 1996 tournament, only to lose to Sri Lanka in the finals in Lahore. Rahul Dravid (India) 1999 Rahul Dravid hit 2 centuries in consecutive innings against Kenya and Sri Lanka. But he chose the biggest stage possible in the 1999 ICC World Cup to change that image in one go. Rahul Dravid scored the most runs in the World Cup and hit 2 back to back centuries. He scored 104* against Kenya in Bristol and hit 145 against Sri Lanka in Taunton. His innings were overshadowed by Sachin Tendulkar’s 140 after he returned from his father’s funeral and Sourav Ganguly’s record breaking 183 against Sri Lanka. Dravid shared a record 318 run partnerships. India only managed to reach the super six stage in the 1999 World Cup, bowing out of the tournament after a defeat to New Zealand in the Super Six stage. Ricky Ponting (Australia) 2003 and 2007 Ponting scored 3 centuries in 3 matches including 2003 and 2007 World Cup matches. Ponting scored 114 against Sri Lanka at Centurion in the semi-finals and 140* against India in the finals of World Cup 2003. Australia won their 3rd World cup and 2nd World Cup consecutively. Ricky Ponting did it again in the 2007 World Cup tournament making a century 113 against Scotland in Basseterre in West Indies, technically making 3 centuries in 3 consecutive World Cup matches. He scored 101 against South Africa in Basseterre and 158 against West Indies in North Sound. Hayden scored more than 600 runs in the tournament and was the major reason behind Australia dominating the World Cup scene from 2003-2007. He scored 107 against West Indies in Ferozshah Kotla in Delhi and then followed it up with 134 against Netherlands in Mohali. He was crucial in South Africa reaching the quarterfinals of the 2011 World Cup. AB de Villiers will be looking to lead the South African team to the finish line this time in 2015. Mahmudullah (Bangladesh) 2015 Mahmudullah is the first Bangladeshi batsman to hit a century in World Cups (Photo Source:BCB) The Bangladeshi middle order batsman had become the first Bangladeshi to hit a World Cup century against England in their last match. He followed it with another gem against their Group toppers New Zealand. He made 103 against England and bettered that score by hitting 128* against New Zealand. Brendan Taylor (Zimbabwe) 2015 Brendan Taylor hit centuries against Ireland and India.(© Getty Images) Current acting Captain of Zimbabwe Brendan Taylor became the latest player to hit back to back centuries in World Cup matches. He hit 121 against Ireland and then hit 138 against India. He has recently announced his retirement form Zimbabwe cricket since he has signed for English county Nottinghamshire. Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka) 2015 Kumar Sangakkara has hit 2 centuries against England and Bangladesh in 2 matches. (Photo Source: Getty Images) Kumar Sangakkara who is playing his last World Cup became the the first batsman to hit 4 consecutive centuries in not just the World Cup, but also in ODIs.Sangakkara hit 105* against Bangladesh in Melbourne and then followed it up with his fastest ODI century 117* against England in Wellington. He carried his good form against Australia scoring 104 in a losing cause. He made his record against Scotland scoring 124. Sangakkara who led Sri Lanka to the 2011 World Cup final has announced retirement from limited overs format after the tournament and will look forward to say goodbye on a high.
