The start of the match was pretty interesting as West Indies lost their first wicket of the 2nd ball of the 1st over, that of Dwayne Smith for a duck. And Chris Gayle survived a LBW decision by using the DRS, which was inconclusive enough for the 3rd umpire to rule it into the favor of the batsman. But after that, it was a long 49 overs for Zimbabwe because Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels slowly but surely began to decimate the Zimbabwean bowling. Gayle cut lose after making his 100 in 105 balls and that’s when the records started tumbling.
