Looking for a coach who will win matches, says Sourav Ganguly

The Virat Kohli- Anil Kumble chapter has been a serious headache for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as they continue their hunt for a new head coach. The Cricket Advisory Committee that is comprised of the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman, wished for their former teammate Anil Kumble’s to continue as the boss. But due to his relationship that went beyond repair, Kumble resigned from the post with dignity after the Indian team flew for the West Indies.

What Ganguly said:

Former Indian captain and an integral part of the CAC, Sourav Ganguly was at the BCCI to attend a meeting of the State Associations. When the question of what kind of a coach does he want was thrown at the left-hander, Ganguly opted for a one who will earn victories for the team. Sourav answered “”One who can win cricket matches.”

This will be the primary factor that will be taken into account while the selection of the coach. But the coach will also need to gel with captain Virat Kohli and give him the freedom to take decisions according to the CAC.

“The Kumble-Kohli saga has been a matter of concern for the BCCI,” said Amitabh Choudhary, the acting Vice President of the Board. While the BCCI is eagerly waiting for team manager Kapil Malhotra’s report, the board has already started looking for a new face in the position of the Indian head coach.

BCCI had invited application for the role before the start of the Champions Trophy and a number of people raised their hands up. While Virender Sehwag remains the frontrunner for the job, the CAC will take in CVs till the 9^th of July. “The CAC will take directives from the BCCI on the next coach,” said Ganguly who will be assisted by Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman in the selection process.
