Maharashtra Ranji Trophy captain Rohit Motwani's car robbed
Maharashtra Ranji team captain Rohit Motwani lost his bag containing jewellery worth around Rs five lakh from his parked car. The unidentified person suspected to have committed the crime is yet to be caught, police said on Monday.
The incident occurred last night when Motwani had parked his car near a hotel in Bund Garden area where he had gone to attend a programme, an officer at Koregaon Park police station said.
Motwani, a 25-year-old left-handed batsman and wicketkeeper, told PTI that he had gone to the hotel to attend a programme with his wife and in-laws.
“Since the hotel parking was full, I parked my car in one of the adjacent lanes at around 9.30 pm,” he said.
When they left the hotel at around 11.30 pm, they found that the left rear windowpane of the car was broken and a bag containing jewellery, kept in the gap between the seats, was missing.

A police complaint was lodged immediately. “We are checking whether there are any CCTV cameras around the area,” a Koregaon Park police officer said.
“There is no way to know yet if this was a planned crime or if Motwani’s car merely happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.” Motwani surely was very unfortunate to have become the victim of a random burglary.
A left-handed batsman and a wicket-keeper, the 25 years old was included in the India A squad to play the warm-up one-day match against England in January 2013. This has been is best achievement so far. He took over from Harshad Khadiwale as the skipper of Maharashtra in 2010/11 and has been their captain ever since.
