Matter of one good innings and will be back in form: Ajinkya Rahane
India’s middle order batsman Ajinkya Rahane has had a quiet series so far against England. While most of the batsmen in the top order have been among the runs, the Mumbai-lad has largely been unsuccessful so far. In a recent conversation with Sky Sports, Rahane spoke about his preparations and game plan. He mentioned how the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid helped him improve his game.
Ajinkya Rahane came into the series riding on a brilliant ton against New Zealand. He had scored 188 in the final Test at Indore to announce great form. However, things have not been green for him in the ongoing series. In four innings that he has played so far, he has managed to score just 63 runs with his top score across those innings has been 26.
He believes that it is only a matter of one good knock to get back in form. He credited his improved batting to Tendulkar and Dravid. Adding further, he mentioned that conversations with coaches Sanjay Bangar and Anil Kumble are helping him a great deal.
“Two or three years ago, I used to overthink things about my batting. But one day I had a word with Sachin, and Rahul Dravid and they told me it’s important to switch off. Nowadays I do; though I do still talk things through with our batting coach, Sanjay Bangar and our head coach, Anil Kumble – he is very experienced. I’m feeling really confident about my batting; it’s just a matter of being one good inning away from being back in form,” quoted Ajinkya Rahane.
The Indian middle-order batsman was also pleased with the way how the entire team contributed towards the win in the Vizag Test. He looked pleased with Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara scoring big. “What was pleasing about the second Test was that we played well overall as a team. It was especially good to see batsmen who got set – Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara – go on to score big hundreds,” mentioned the Mumbai batsman.
Lastly, he concluded that the team is not focusing on the England’s game plan but on their strengths. “We’re not thinking about the England team right now. We are focusing on our strengths, and looking to play confidently in the middle,” conceded Rahane.
