The ongoing dispute between Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has now become subject of concern after it affected India Women’s team in their preparation camp ahead of the T20 World Cup. The conflict between the association and the board over the hosting of the fourth ODI between India and West Indies resulted in the loss of a day’s practice for the Women’s team.

The issue spurred after BCCI shifted the fourth ODI to the Brabourne Stadium which was originally slated to be hosted by the Wankhede Stadium. As a result, MCA refused to host Women’s team preparation camp at Wankhede, and it, in turn, hampered the preparations for Harmanpree Kaur and her team.

Waiting for the official decision from the court

The matter between the two governing bodies has reached the High Court, with MCA claiming that the association was not informed officially by the board about the change in the venue. As a result, they are not ready to host the Women’s preparation camp until they get an official decision from the High Court.

“The eligible members have made the MCA a party to this writ petition. As a result, we informed the BCCI that we cannot let the camp take place till the time the High Court gives us a direction,” a top MCA official told mid-day.

The team, as a consequence, couldn’t begin Day 1 of their preparation camp. “A YoYo test was to be conducted today (on Tuesday), but it couldn’t happen. The players then had an extensive gym session to compensate for the time lost,” the source said.

BCCI asks CCI to host the camp

After MCA’s refusal, BCCI proposed to the CCI, the official venue for the camp, to host the Women’s team for their T20 preparation camp. CCI had no objection, “We don’t know whether the BCCI wants us to hold the full camp. If they want it that way, we have no problem. We are ready for anything to promote cricket,” as mentioned by a CCI official.

When asked if the MCA is willing to host the women’s team after the court hearing, the MCA official said: “Yes. We have no problem, but first, there has to be some direction from the High Court.”
