MCA official upset with overcrowded Corporate Boxes during Lunch
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is hosting the fourth Test between Team India and England of the ongoing 5-match series. While the match was received quite warmly by the crowd with the game well in balance as India and England both have played some good cricket. But a certain MCA official was not very pleased with the manner in which not the game but the hospitality services were managed.
MCA had awarded the catering contract for this match to Thakkar Caterers and the official felt that there was chaos in the Corporate Boxes during lunch time. The caterers had a tough time distributing food to the distinguished guests, members present in the VIP boxes that are close to the MCA Pavilion since it was overcrowded.
As per past traditions whenever a Test match was played at the Wankhede, the MCA officials were served their lunch at the adjacent Mumbai Hockey Association (MHA). But this time it wasn’t the case. “We don’t mind food being served at our hockey premises,” Mangha Singh Bakshi president of MHA was quoted as saying by Mumbai Mirror.
“We share a warm relationship with the MCA. They have always been available when we needed them. We objected only to cooking being done there owing to security issues. All we desired was an undertaking from the MCA that we won’t be responsible if anything goes wrong.”
Earlier ahead of the start of the match joint secretary PV Shetty of the association had told TIO that the managing committee had decided to cut expenses on food and thus opted for a new caterer for the occasion. “This time, we’ve got a limited budget. Anyways, we don’t earn much out of a Test. Hence, we had to consider cost-cutting measures. We normally spend Rs 1.5 crore on catering, but this time we’ve decided to spend around Rs 1cr on it instead,” Shetty said.
