MI pacer Lasith Malinga fined 5 percent match fees for on field altercation
MI pacer Lasith Malinga fined 5 percent match fees for on field altercation: Mumbai Indians pacer Lasith Malinga has been fined 5 percent of his match for breaching the Indian Premier League (IPL) Code of Conduct (COC). According to the press release on the IPL website Malinga was found guilty of breaching the COC during the Mumbai Indians v Sunrisers Hyderabad match at the Wankhede stadium on Saturday.
According to IPLT20.com the match referee Mr. Roshan Mahanama found Mumbai pacer Lasith Malinga guilty under Level 1 offence (Article2.1.8) which guards the conduct of the players and expects it to be within the spirit of the game; since Malinga had breached it the match referee decided to impose a fine on him.
As this falls under the level 1 offence the decision made by the Match Referee is final and is binding on the player, and he has no option to appeal against the verdict passed by Roshan Mahanama. For offences of higher order, which are griever the players have an alternative to appeal for a review if they believe the decision has been made against them.
Malinga faced this charge for his gestures and exchange of words with SRH opener and skipper David Warner while the later was dismissed on a Malinga delivery in the contest between the two teams which was eventually won by the home side.
