Michael Vaughan is highly critical of the English batting lineup
England kept losing wickets in the pre-lunch session of the fourth day.
England played exceedingly well in the first two Tests against India at Edgbaston and Lord’s respectively to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. Prior to the ongoing match at Trent Bridge in Nottingham, the Three Lions seemed to be the firm favorites to emerge triumphant and seal the fate of the series. However, after a couple of disappointing outings, India have come back strongly.
The Brits, on the contrary, have been a tad erratic in all the departments owing to which the visiting team has had the ascendancy through the chunk of the game. India, courtesy of Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane put on 159 runs for the fourth wicket after which their team racked up 329 runs. For the first instance in the series, the English bowlers seemed to have run out of ideas.
England goes from bad to worse in Nottingham
The Poms, courtesy of Alastair Cook and Keaton Jennings’ 54-run stand, got themselves off to a decent start. Nevertheless, Hardik Pandya ripped their batting lineup apart with his maiden five-wicket haul in the longest format of the sport. From 54-0, England slumped to 128/9. Jos Buttler flayed his bat around to score 39 runs, but the home team ended up conceding a mammoth lead of 168 runs.
In the second innings, Virat Kohli scored his 23rd Test century to take the sting out of the English attack. Pandya also scored a run-a-ball half-century to propel India’s lead to 520 after which India declared. Cook and Jennings scored 23 runs to play out the remaining nine overs of the third day but England kept losing wickets in the pre-lunch session of the fourth day.
In the meantime, Michael Vaughan, the former English captain, isn’t satisfied with the approach of the hosts’ batsmen. He took to Twitter and wrote, “We just are not learning …. #ENDvIND”
