Mitchell Johnson comes up with witty caption for Virat Kohli-Marcus Stoinis photo
Stoinis will play the next edition of the IPL for the Royal Challengers Bangalore,
Nowadays, international cricket always carries the shadow of franchise cricket with it, thanks to the popularity of franchise T20 tournaments across the world. Recently, the same was seen during the first T20I between India and Australia in Brisbane. The International Cricket Council (ICC) shared a picture of a smiling Indian captain Virat Kohli with Australian batting all-rounder Marcus Stoinis on its Twitter handle and the mention of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was not far. Reason: Stoinis will play the next edition of the IPL for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, the team which is captained by Kohli.
The picture saw a contest for captioning as the ICC Twitter handle asked for it and former Australian speedster Mitchell Johnson took a lead. He put words in Kohli’s mouth saying: “How did you get big muscles” to poke at his compatriot Stoinis and replied to the ICC’s question: “What do you think Virat Kohli is saying here to Marcus Stoinis?”
One fan asked Johnson the reason for him taking a swipe regularly at Kohli, with whom he had a spat on the field during an earlier India tour of Australia. The former pacer said his joke actually aimed the 29-year-old Australian cricketer who has been playing international cricket since 2015.
Stoinis played a key role in first T20I
Perth-born Stoinis was recently traded by the RCB from the Kings XI Punjab in exchange with Mandeep Singh. Stoinis has been playing the IPL since 2016 and has played 19 matches so far, scoring 262 runs and taking 13 wickets. He has scored one fifty in the tournament and registered the best bowling figure of 4 for 15.
Stoinis played a key role in Australia’s four-run win over India in the rain-hit first T20I by scoring a 33 not out off 19 balls and taking 2 wickets for 27 runs which included the crucial one of Dinesh Karthik. Stoinis, however, fell for just four runs in the second T20I at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday and the match was washed out. Australia lead the three-match series 1-0 with the final game due to be played in Sydney on Sunday.
