Mithali Raj in no mood to be complacent after win over England
Against England, she had hit a brilliant 71 to help India Women post a huge total.
India Women skipper Mithali Raj is looking forward to India’s next clash in the ongoing edition of the ICC Women’s World Cup. The Indian side had registered a thumping win against the English women in their first game of the tournament. The all-round show had seen them thoroughly outplay the pre-tournament favorites. Now, they will lock horns with Windies Women in their next game.
As per the recent quotes in Indian Express, Mithali Raj spoke at length about her plans for the game. She conceded that the team could not get outdoor practice due to the weather conditions but the team is happy with their preparations. The good start has given them the right momentum going into the tournament.
“We could not get the outdoor facility for training but we did some knocks and the bowlers did some bowling in the indoor nets. The first game has been a good start and has built a momentum for us in the tournament. But we do understand that we have to play few more games before we qualify for the semis so the next game is equally important against West Indies,” conceded Mithali Raj.
On the opposition
Talking about her opposition, the Indian skipper is wary of the challenge that the Windies could prove to be. She noted that they have some very good players including their skipper Stafanie Taylor. Hence, the team is in no mood to be complacent ahead of the big clash. They need to win the game to get an inch closer to the semis.
“West Indies usually in the World Cups start very slow and they have some big hitters like Captain Stafanie Taylor, Mathews is a very talented youngster. They do have a good batting line up and it’s important for us to see it another game and we can’t get into more complacency from the first game. It’s important that we win this game to keep ourselves looking forward to a berth in the semis. Even if you lose one game you still have the competition open and make a comeback,” she said.
On personal form
On the personal front, Mithali Raj has been in a scintillating form. She has hit 7 consecutive fifties in ODI cricket. Against England, she had hit a brilliant 71 to help India Women post a huge total. She remarked that she is happy to be contributing to the team’s cause. She further added that they have devised their plans for the individual players of the opposition team.
“I’m just glad that I have scored runs for the country and I Have been consistent and I’m hoping to continue the same form in the coming games. Conditions may not be the factor in selecting the XI but the way we play is going to matter,” said Raj.
“It is important that we have game plans for every player from their side and have our bowlers and batters going in with a specific plan in mind,” she added.
Mithali reads a lot
The Indian skipper also revealed that reading books is a habit that she has from long time, “It’s a habit and I read a lot. I do that even before going out to bat and it’s just not in international games but also in domestic cricket as well. That’s what I was doing, it’s just that the matches are being televised now so the people got to know about it,”
