Mohammad Amir the most expensive Pakistan cricketer in ‘The Hundred’ draft
35 Pakistan players will be taking part in the draft on October 20.
Mohammad Amir, the dynamic fast bowler, has been included as the most expensive player from Pakistan in the players’ draft for ‘The Hundred’. The tournament is being organized by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the draft will take place on October 20. Apart from Amir, 34 more cricketers from Pakistan also entered the draft for the most-awaited event next year.
The Gujjar Khan-born Amir has a reserve price of 100,000 pounds even as the likes of Chris Gayle, Lasith Malinga, Kagiso Rabada, Steven Smith, Mitchell Starc and David Warner are listed for the highest reserve price of 125,000 pounds. The ECB lately released names of 239 foreign players for the draft. Only 12 players can be picked by a team with a maximum of three foreigners.
“Teams will select 12 players on the night — with a maximum of three overseas picks — who will join the already-announced England red-ball contracted players and Local Icons,” ECB was quoted as saying in Geo News on Wednesday.
“Chris Gayle, Steve Smith and Mitchell Starc were among the star overseas players available for selection in The Hundred men’s Draft on Sunday, 20 October,” the ECB added.
18 Pakistan players without a reserve price
Babar Azam, Mohammad Hafeez and Shadab Khan have 75,000 pounds as their reserve price in the draft. Shaheen Shah Afridi, the young pace sensation, Shahid Afridi, Faheem Ashraf, Usman Shinwari, Shoaib Malik and Wahab Riaz have a reserve price of 60,000 pounds.
Among the 35 players, at least 18 of them are entering draft without any reserve price. They are Iftekhar Ahmed, Kamran Akmal, Saif Badar, Mir Hamza, Mohammad Irfan, Junaid Khan, Adeel Malik, Sohaib Maqsood, Usama Mir, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan, Asad Shafiq, Yasir Shah, Ahmed Shehzad, Haris Sohail, Sohail Tanvir, Imam ul Haq and Aamir Yamin.
‘The Hundred’ is a 100-ball cricket tournament in England and Wales, set to commence on July 2020. The league consists of eight city-based franchise teams, each of which will field a men’s and women’s team. Each innings will have 100 balls with a power-play of 25 balls.
London Spirit, Welsh Fire, Southern Brave, Birmingham Phoenix, Trent Rockets, Leeds Superchargers, Manchester Originals, and Oval Invincibles are the names of the eight teams.
