Mohammad Amir wins the Player of the Month award for his performances in July

Mohammad Amir continues to gain rich rewards during his stay in England as the Pakistan left-arm pacer, who was the crucial part in their win in the final of Champions Trophy, carried on his efforts for the Essex County side and has performed consistently in the NatWest T20 Blast and County Championship. In this process, the 25-year old received the Player of the Month award for his performances in the July Month.
Essex has a tradition of awarding their best performer in a given month through voting system accessed by their fans. Four best players in a given month contest for the award sponsored by the DeVines. South African off-spinner Simon Harmer on a Kolpak deal with the Essex, won the Player of the month award for the June month for his consistent show with the ball in the County Championship.
Amir featured in 8 NatWest T20 Blast games in July where the play was possible in only 7 matches. In those, Amir picked up only 6 wickets but conceded runs at an economy rate of 6.87 and bowled 88 dot balls during this period. Amir bowled a total of 27.3 overs during the competition which meant 53.33% of the balls he bowled were dots.
The left-arm paceman began August too on a good note by recording his best bowling figures in first-class cricket. He picked up 10 wickets in the County Championship game against Yorkshire conceding only 72 runs. Amir also took 4 wickets across the two T20 blast games he played during this month so far.
Mohammad Amir had to contest for the DeVines’ player of the July month with Paul Walter, Varun Chopra and Ravi Bopara. Amir’s bowling partner Walter picked up 11 wickets in T20 blast games in July while Varun aggregated 250 runs including an unbeaten 103. Bopara starred with both bat and ball scoring 250 runs and taking 7 wickets in those 8 games played in July.
Amir expressed his happiness by posting the picture of his award on Twitter. He wrote, “Alhumdulilah really happy thanku everyone for ur support.”
