Mohammad Hafeez gratifyingly welcomes Navjot Singh Sidhu to Pakistan
He is only Indian who will attend Imran Khan's oath-taking ceremony.
Pakistan recently got its newest Prime Minister in the form of Imran Khan, the former Pakistani cricketer. The General Elections took place on July 25 and Imran’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) comprehensively emerged triumphant. They brushed aside Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League (PML) to bag the most number of seats among the three competitors.
A total of 272 seats were up for grabs and albeit PTI won, they initially were unable to bag the majority of 137 votes as per the Election Commision of the country. A majority is required to form the government. Recently, the party has claimed that they have garnered the required number of seats. In the meantime, the oath-taking ceremony is scheduled to take place tomorrow on August 18.
Sidhu reaches Pakistan
Previously, the same was to take place on August 11 but was postponed. A number of eminent personalities have been invited for the auspicious occasion. Former cricketers like Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, and Navjot Singh Sidhu, who played alongside the legendary cricketers, were also invited. However, Gavaskar and Kapil declined the invitations.
In the meantime, Sidhu accepted the offer and applied for the visa at the Pakistan High Commision in New Delhi. His visa was approved and he was dated to reach Pakistan today. He reached the country without much fuss and will be attending the ceremony tomorrow. Meanwhile, Mohammad Hafeez, Pakistan cricket team’s all-rounder, welcomed the retired cricketer.
Hafeez hasn’t had the best of times in his international career. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced new contracts for the players and the 37-year-old was demoted from Grade ‘A’ to ‘Grade ‘B’. Nevertheless, the Sargodha-born player was delighted to see the former Indian batsman on Pakistani soil.
He took to Twitter and wrote, “Welcome to @sherryontopp to Pakistan, enjoy the Great Hospitality here in Pakistan, love & Peace for all humanity”,
