MS Dhoni cancels order for Kadaknath chicken over bird flu fears

The former Indian captain MS Dhoni loves to utilize his time by doing organic farming and boasts of having a 43-acre farmhouse located at Ring Road in Sembo village in Ranchi where different kinds of fruits and vegetables are extensively cultivated. He is also actively involved in dairy farming, duck farming, and poultry farming.

In the same light, Dhoni was impressed with Kadaknath, a unique chicken breed that is black in colour and is found in the tribal-dominated Jhabua district of MP’s Bheelanchal region. The Kadaknath chicken meat has a GI tag and is recognized for its delicious taste along with its medicinal health benefits.

He had ordered as many as 2000 Kadaknath chicks from a poultry farmer in Jhabua district of Madhya Pradesh for his farm. Vinod Medha, a farmer from Thandla block of Jhabua district had the responsibility of delivering all the 2000 chicks to the former captain. However, it is learned that the former Indian captain has cancelled the order of Kadaknath chicken in the wake of the bird flu crisis.

2,500 Kadaknath chickens die in Madhya Pradesh due to bird flu

MS decided to change his plans about ordering both Kadaknath and Gramapriya chicken for his farmhouse in Ranchi as of now due to the increasing terror of bird flu in the country. While the Kadaknath chicken was scheduled to be brought from Madhya Pradesh’s Jhabua, the Gramapriya chicken order would have been obtained from Hyderabad. According to reports, the Bird flu outbreak has killed at least 2,500 Kadaknath chickens in the state of Madhya Pradesh.

Speaking about the order, Vinod Meda, who is the director of a poultry firm in Rundipada village of Jhabua reckoned that he was working hard to fulfill the order of Kadaknath chicks to MS Dhoni by preparing around 2,850 chicks but bird flu severely affected his business as he is now just left with 150 chickens.

“After getting the order, I was preparing about 2,850 Kadaknath chicks for the last four months and was supposed to deliver 2,000 on January 10 to Dhoni’s firm. In the last 4-5 days, most of the birds dropped dead. I was left with only around 150 chicken,” Vinod concluded as quoted by Times of India.
