Murali Vijay confident of making a comeback in the Indian Test side
He was dropped after bagging a pair at Lord's.
When the Test series against England began, he was one of the major hopes for India. After three Tests of the five-match series, Murali Vijay finds himself out of the squad itself. The visitors are fighting it out in Southampton to level the series while the team’s experienced opener is back in India after being dropped. At the age of 34, will he be able to make a comeback? Vijay thinks he can do so and is damn confident of sorting things out soon.
Vijay, in a way, was a casualty of the poor batting performance in the first two Tests. He was involved in the 50-run opening partnership along with Shikhar Dhawan in the series opener and then bagged a pair at Lord’s before finding himself out of the playing XI in the third Test. The batsmen improved in the must-win game and then suddenly he was no longer required in the squad.
The tour sums up for Vijay this way and clearly, he didn’t deserve such a harsh treatment. But his form has surely gone down outside Asia.
I am positive
Murali Vijay was rather confident of making it back into the national side soon after losing his place mid-series. However, he wanted India to win the ongoing Test series though. “I will be back playing for India. I am positive, will sort a few things out, make runs. Firstly, I want India to win the series in England. It is not the first time this [being left out] has happened to me,” he was quoted as saying by Sportstar Live.
He is 34 years old now and when asked if age will be the factor for him going forward, the veteran denied the same and credited England’s bowlers for getting his measure this time around. “I believe age is only a number. As long as my feet move and my head is still, I will continue to play. The English pacemen had their gameplan worked out this time, bowling closer to my body and making me play a lot more deliveries,” Vijay added.
