'Neither I am President nor the regular captain to comment' - Rohit Sharma on Farokh Engineer's controversial comment
Anushka Sharma and MSK Prasad earlier slammed Farokh Engineer for his statement.
Farokh Engineer criticised India’s selection panel led by MSK Prasad recently in an interview. He also claimed that one of the selectors wearing India blazer was serving cups of tea to Virat Kohli‘s wife Anushka Sharma during the World Cup. The comment didn’t go down well with Anushka and Prasad as they slammed Engineer for the same. However, when Rohit Sharma was asked about the same, he preferred staying away from the controversy.
Anushka, in a strongly-worded statement on social media, responded to all the criticism she has faced so far ever since being linked with Kohli. She also took a dig at Farokh Engineer for dragging her in his statement to sensationalise it. However, the former India cricketer later apologised to her and cleared that he had no intention to drag her in the matter.
Moreover, MSK Prasad wasn’t pleased too with Engineer for his criticism of the selectors and said, “Someone at the age of 82 should reflect maturity and enjoy the progress of Indian cricket from his time to the current day. I feel sad for someone deriving sadistic pleasure out of indulging in the petty talk, thereby demeaning & disrespecting the selectors and wife of Indian captain through false and frivolous allegations.”
You better ask him why he said like that, says Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma, on Thursday, attended an event in Delhi when he was asked about the controversy and Farokh Engineer’s statement on the selection committee. However, the stand-in India captain was smart and preferred to not comment on the matter. He also told the reporters to ask Engineer himself to know why he made the statement.
“Neither am I the President nor the captain, a regular captain. So what should I say about this? So ask him (Farokh Engineer) why did he say that? I haven’t said anything, so, what should I say? I cannot go into Farokh Sir’s head and see why he said that? Right?” Rohit Sharma said according to NNIS Sports News.
Meanwhile, Rohit is set to lead India in the upcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh in Virat Kohli’s absence and will be keen to perform well.
