Pakistan vs New Zealand: Ramiz Raja sheds light on the empty stands in UAE
Not many people have shown interest in Pakistan's 'home' season.
Pakistan cricket team is the unluckiest team in the game at the moment. The international teams are just not convinced to travel Pakistan ever since Sri Lankan team bus was attacked while heading to Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. It happened in 2009 and even close to nine years down the line, the Men in Green are playing in their adopted home the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Pakistan are in exceptional form playing in the UAE at the moment. They blanked Australia in the three-match T20I series and won the preceding Test series by 1-0. Moreover, they also continued their winning streak against New Zealand in the shortest format. Now they will be fighting it out against them in the three-match ODI series which is all set to commence from Wednesday in Abu Dhabi.
Amidst all these performances, the crowd hasn’t come out in numbers to support Pakistan which is left the former cricketer Ramiz Raja worried. The stadiums were packed during the preceding Asia Cup and the same kind of response was expected for Pakistan’s ‘home’ season.
Just so confused
Ahead of the series opener, Rami Raja expressed his disappointment on his official Twitter handle asking the fans of the Pakistan team if they’ve stopped caring of how their team is playing. There were literally no spectators during the Test series while it was expected that the T20Is will bring more people to the Stadium. But the condition was same unlike the Asia Cup when almost every game was sold out.
“Empty stands kill any cricket theatre. Is it because of how Pakistan is playing it’s cricket or the public has just lost interest or the life’s uncertainties and challenges have consumed peoples’lives to the lid to not care & follow the greatest sport on earth. Just so confused!” Ramiz wrote in his tweet.
It will be interesting to see if the crowd will come to support Pakistan during the three ODIs against New Zealand as the hosts are the favourites to win it.
