Pakistan's performances were embarrassing for me: Wasim Akram
Pakistan team is being targeted from all the corners.
Asia Cup was originally supposed to be all about India and Pakistan meeting three times including the final in the space of 10 days. But the teams like Bangladesh and Afghanistan performed brilliantly compared to the Men in Green and hogged all the limelight. India and Bangladesh will fight it out in the final on Friday as Pakistan have crashed out of the tournament. However, the show they put up on the field in the competition has embarrassed the former cricketer Wasim Akram.
The arch-rivals were meeting for the first time after the Champions Trophy final and the excitement was at its peak. But Pakistan crumbled with the bat not once but twice, in the group stage and in the Super Four, to put up an underwhelming score after opting to bat first. The discouraging fact for the fans was that they lost to Bangladesh as well in a must-win game and failed to qualify for the final.
The whole country is disappointed
The team led by Sarfraz Ahmed was touted as the favourites to win the tournament but are being criticised now for their dismal show. Wasim Akram, who earlier lashed out at the team saying that the Champions Trophy victory was a fluke, expressed his disappointment and went on to say that it was embarrassing for him to see the team go down meekly.
“Pakistan’s performances were embarrassing for me being an ex-Pakistani player & captain to see. Winning & losing is part of the game but not like that. It was boring, not good for TV, not good for spectators & the whole country will be disappointed,” the former Pakistan skipper was quoted as saying by Pak Passion.
Amidst all the criticism, Pakistan will be next facing Australia in the two-match Test series in the UAE and would be hoping to put the disastrous Asia Cup behind soon.
