PCB extends Pakistan batsman Ahmed Shehzad's ban
His suspension starts on November 11.
Earlier in October, Pakistani batsman Ahmed Shehzad was handed a suspension of four months by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after he was tested positive for the consumption of a banned substance during the Pakistan Cup back in May. Later the ban was backdated, he was advised to stay away from all forms of cricket. He wasn’t even given a central contract.
However, the 26-year-old batter has found his career further into the doldrums for the reason that he played seven matches in 12 days for his club Muslim Gymkhana. His participation was known through one of Shehzad’s tweets. The PCB thereafter issued a show cause notice to the top-order batsman for breaching the terms of the ‘Agreed Sanction Agreement’.
More misery for Shehzad
Recently, it has been learned that the country’s board has extended the Lahore-born cricketer’s ban by an additional six weeks, starting November 11 as per reports in PakPassion. He played cricket during the initial period of his ineligibility owing to which the decision has been taken. Lately, the tainted batter mentioned that he didn’t take the substance intentionally.
He said that he had consumed his mother’s medicine and also showed his mother’s prescription for Dronabinol and her medical records. He claimed that his wife gave him his mother’s medicine instead of Gravinate, the one he took on a consistent basis. Shehzad also took help from the psychotherapist and dope control official in order to present his case to the PCB.
Amidst all the chaos surrounding his career, he has been added to the player pool for the fourth edition of the Pakistan Super League next year. Last season he played for Multan Sultans, captained by Shoaib Malik. His last international appearance came when Sarfraz Ahmed’s Pakistan toured Scotland for a two-match T20I series in June. He scored 24 and 14 in the series.
