Former England coach Peter Moores has declined the offer to be the coach for the Pakistan national cricket team. Moores was one of the forerunners for the position of the head coach of the Pakistan side. Moores was approached by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently and after thorough discussions, the former England coach decided not to opt for the opportunity that had come his way.

“I was hugely flattered to be approached,” Moores told ESPNcricinfo. “And I was very tempted by such a prestigious role with an exciting team.

The coaching job is supposed to be based at Lahore, though Pakistan will play their home games at UAE. This perhaps was one of the reasons why Moores decided not to take up the job offer. Moores admitted that he is enjoying his stint as a consultant to the Nottinghamshire side and wishes to be with his kids as they grow up.

“But having thought about it deeply, I don’t think it is the right time for me or my family. I have committed myself to a consultancy role with Nottinghamshire and I am enjoying spending time with my kids as they grow up,” quoted Peter Moores.

Moores had two stints as the head coach of the English team. His first tenure in 2007-2008, where he succeeded Duncan Fletcher, was very unsatisfactory which led to his removal in early 2009 by the England and Wales Cricket Board. Five years later, he was re-appointed for the job and found great success. The former England coach has a stupendous record in the domestic circuit. He guided Sussex to their first Championship title in their 164-year history.
