Piers Morgan wants Ben Stokes to be stripped of vice captaincy
Morgan wasn't impressed with the ECB's decision to retain Ben Stokes as the vice-captain.
Piers Morgan on Wednesday lashed out at the English Cricket Board regarding the recent Ben Stokes controversy and demanded him to be stripped of the vice-captaincy. While England Cricket confirmed that they will persist with him as a vice-captain, Piers Morgan lost it all and took them down in a series of tweets.
The controversy broke down following England’s victory against the Windies in the third One-Day International. Ben Stokes was arrested following a brawl on Queen’s Road, in Clifton, which left a 27-year-old suffering from facial injuries needing treatment at Bristol Royal Infirmary.
Morgan’s dig at Strauss
He first took on English team director Andrew Strauss. Terming him as ‘Mr Discipline’, Piers asked him to justify the decision. Here’s what he tweeted.
He didn’t stop here as he continued to fire shots at Ben Stokes. While he admitted that he loved and admired Stokes as a player, he questioned how could they continue to persist with him as a vice captain after what was a major act of misconduct.
He compared it to the Andrew Flintoff incident back in the 2007 World Cup at the Caribbean Islands. After being involved in a drunken 4 am escapade on a pedalo, Flintoff was stripped of the vice-captaincy and also banned for one match.
Morgan wants the yardstick to be the same for all
Thus, Piers Morgan felt that it was unfair of ECB to let go off Stokes so easily. However, any cricketing argument involving Piers without the mention of Kevin Pietersen is impossible. And he didn’t forget to bring up the same when another user told that no one wanted Ben Stokes out of the English team. Morgan was of the view that punishments applied to everyone and if Kevin Pietersen could be banned for life for whistling and Flintoff being sacked for getting on a pedalo, Stokes too deserved to be punished.
And Mr. Piers Morgan known for getting into anyone’s sleeves in an argument continued to take potshots…
After the incident, all-rounder Ben Stokes is slated to miss the One-Day International game to be played at the Kennington Oval today and will also not figure in the final ODI due to a broken finger, which Strauss confirmed.
