Police complaint lodged against Harbhajan Singh: Harbhajan Singh’s wedding to Bollywood actress Geeta Basra took another ugly turn. Sikh organisations have lodged a complaint against the India cricketer, saying that he served 113 different varieties of tobacco at the event.

The religion of Sikhism prohibits the consumption of tobacco, let alone serving it at an auspicious ceremony. However, it is known that the guests at Harbhajan’s wedding were offered tobacco and hookah.

The Sikh organisations have appealed for action against the cricketer. They have also said that they will lodge a complaint against Harbhajan at the Akal Takht — the highest seat of power of the Sikh religion.

Meanwhile, a senior Youth Akali Dal leader, Jarnail Singh Gardiwal, has also filed a complaint against Harbhajan at the Akal Takht — the highest seat of power of the Sikh religion.

Gardiwal has alleged that Harbhajan had prevented devotees from entering the gurudwara at the Guru Nanak Mission Netraheen Vridh Ashram during his wedding ceremony on Thursday.

Adding that the alleged offence amounts to hurting the religious sentiments of the Sikh community, Gardiwal has asked the Takht to summon Harbhajan and direct him to apologise to the Sikh community.

“How can one be stopped from entering a Gurudwara by private bouncers. No celebrity has ever deployed bouncers in a Gurudwara in Punjab,” Gardiwal said.

The media persons alleged that the bouncers manhandled them, and took away and broke their cameras and equipment while they were filming events at the high-profile wedding.

The case was registered after the upset media persons staged a sit-in outside the reception venue in Jalandhar city, 150 km from Chandigarh, demanding immediate arrest of the four bouncers. The manhandling allegedly took place late on Thursday evening.
