Prithvi Shaw and Ajinkya Rahane to join the Mumbai squad for Vijay Hazare Trophy
Shaw and Rahane were busy in the Windies Test series so far.
Mumbai’s squad will be significantly bolstered as Prithvi Shaw and Ajinkya Rahane are set to join Rohit Sharma in the semi-final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Rohit was drafted into the Mumbai side especially for the knockout stage of the tournament. Shaw and Rahane, on the other hand, were on national duty representing Team India in the Test series against the Windies.
The 18-year-old who made his international debut for India in the first Test at Rajkot ended up as the leading run-scorer in the series, which earned him a Man of the Series award. Mumbai is likely to field all three capped players, and their batting order will probably be the most potent in the semi-finals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Rahane has been able to get some runs for India in the Test series, while Rohit and Shaw have both been in spectacular form. The Indian limited-overs opener remained unbeaten on 33 against Bihar in a one-sided quarter-final at Bengaluru’s Just Cricket Ground Academy. Mumbai crushed Bihar by nine wickets to make it to the semis.
Agarkar confirms their inclusion
Chief selector of Mumbai and former India pacer Ajit Agarkar confirmed that all the three players will be available to play in the semis. Shaw had played in the initial part of the tournament for the domestic giants before moving to train with Team India ahead of the Windies series. The semi-finals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy are scheduled for October 17 and 18. Mumbai’s opponents will be decided after the other two semi-finals conclude on Monday.
The five-match ODI series against West Indies begins on October 21 with the first match set to be played at Guwahati. Rohit Sharma has been named as vice-captain for the first two matches of the series.
