'Prithvi Shaw lacks consistency' - Salman Butt on why youngster would miss a spot in India's T20 World Cup squad
Former Pakistan skipper Salman Butt believes Prithvi Shaw should play more cautiously ahead of the T20 World Cup 2021.
Former Pakistan opener Salman Butt feels India young opening batter Prithvi Shaw is taking far too many risks early in his innings which would cost him a place in the squad if he is selected in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup scheduled to take place in India in October 2021.
Butt also stated that India often lookout for openers who could bat through the first six overs of powerplay like Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Shikhar Dhawan. Shaw due to his all-out attacking batting might be overlooked by the selectors ahead of the T20 World Cup. Interestingly, Shaw had a good IPL scoring 228 runs for the Delhi Capitals at a strike rate of above 166.48.
“There is no dearth of talent in Prithvi Shaw and he has scored runs. But I still believe he is playing too many shots too early because of which he lacks consistency. Usually, they (India) go in with stable players, who are more dependable, and those who mould their game accordingly. So far, we have seen that Prithvi only plays one way. He plays his shots,” Butt said on his YouTube channel.
Prithvi Shaw had a great run in IPL 2021
The Mumbai batter Shaw had a stellar run in the Vijay Hazare Trophy scoring 827 runs and thereby leading Mumbai to victory in the 2021 season. The 20-year-old opening batter worked on his flaws with Praveen Amre after being dropped from Test squad. He didn’t take the snub too well and worked hard to get back to scoring runs.
In the 14th edition of IPL, he along with Dhawan provided Capitals blistering start upfront which put the pressure on the opposition teams. The highlight of Shaw’s innings was undoubtedly his 82 against KKR, where he scored six boundaries of the first over of the innings against Shivam Mavi. With the opener now not being included in the 20 man squad for the Test series in England, the 20-year-old youngster will be hoping to have a good tour of Sri Lanka in the month of July.
If selected Shaw will look to make it big and try to impress selectors ahead of the all-important T20 World cup.
