The Pakistan Super League is in its final stages. Fans have had the opportunity to witness some nail-biting encounters. Peshawar Zalmi is the defending champions and they were pipped to put up a strong fight this time around too. On the other hand, Lahore Qalandars haven’t had a great outing as a unit. They are one of the teams with the worst win-loss ratio in the history of T20 cricket.

Last ball thriller

Peshawar Zalmi and Lahore Qalandars squared off against each other in Eliminator 1 at the Gaddafi stadium in Lahore. It was another last ball thriller that saw Peshawar Zalmi edge the Qalandars by a margin of one run. Apart from Peshawar’s win, it was their bowler Umaid Asif who hogged all the limelight. The right-arm medium took two wickets in Peshawar’s win.

Asif removed the dangerous Rossouw and Mahmudullah that proved to be the crunch moment in the game. After taking Bangladesh all-rounder Mahmudullah’s wicket, Asif went on celebrating in style. He flaunted the ‘Iron Man’ t-shirt, which he was wearing inside his team’s jersey.

Quetta needed 158 for victory and they were behind for the most part of the game. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals that daunted their hopes of moving forward in the tournament. The game was all but over with Quetta needing 25 in the last over. However, batsman Anwar Ali had other plans. He smashed three sixes and a four and brought the target down to three with one delivery left. They faltered at the final hurdle as Mir Hamza, the non-striker was run out while trying to take the second run.

Peshawar will now take on Karachi Kings in the second eliminator in Lahore on Wednesday and the winner of that match will face Islamabad United in the final in Karachi on Sunday.
