PSL 2020: Karachi Kings’ players to get an apartment each after maiden title glory
The Kings beat the Qalandars in five wickets at the National Stadium.
Karachi Kings made the playoffs for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in the first four editions of the tournament. However, they couldn’t win the trophy even once. In fact, after ending in the top four, they failed to even make the final. The fortunes turned for them in the 2020 edition of the tournament as they emerged as the champions, beating Lahore Qalandars in the final on Tuesday, November 17.
In the Qualifier against Multan Sultans, they got through after the match went into the Super Over. But Imad Wasim and Co put forth their A-game in the final showdown at the National Stadium in Karachi, winning by five wickets with eight balls to spare. Their victory was also a tribute to Late Dean Jones, their former head coach, who passed away due to a heart attack back in the month of September.
In the meantime, after their glory run, the Kings’ players are set for some rewards. Salman Iqbal, the owner of the PSL franchise, mentioned that each of the winning team’s cricketers will be presented with an apartment in his real estate development project. The revelations were put forth by Pakistan journalist Omar R Quraishi.
Babar Azam shines for Karachi Kings
Ahead of the final, the Qalandars were deemed as the favourites, especially after their triumph against the Sultans and Peshawar Zalmi in the Eliminators. However, Karachi didn’t allow them to get away with the game at any stage. Opting to bat first, Sohail Akhtar’s Lahore could only manage 134 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their 20 overs.
Tamim Iqbal top-scored for them with a 38-ball 35. Fakhar Zaman also chipped in with a 24-ball 27. But it was only for cameos from David Wiese and Shaheen Shah Afridi that the Qalandars managed to get a respectable score. From 68 for no loss in 10 overs, their innings went into a slump.
In the run-chase, Babar Azam turned out to be insurmountable. The 26-year-old brought forth all his experience and guided the Kings through. He stayed unbeaten on 63 off 49 with the help of seven fours. For Qalandars, Dilbar Hussain and Haris Rauf got two wickets each, but their efforts went in vain.
