Punjab name their squad for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy

With the prestigious Vijay Hazare Trophy just three days away, most of the teams have already announced their squad. The prestigious 50-over tournament has a lot of relevance as quite a few players have impressed the national selectors with their performance here. Tamil Nadu will go into this tournament as the defending champions. They have won the tournament five times so far. Earlier today, Punjab also named their squad for the VHT.

The 27 Ranji teams will be divided into five zonal groups. After playing each team in the group once, the five top teams and the next best qualify for the quarter-finals while the four other runners-up play in the preliminary quarter-finals. The two winners of pre-quarter finals join the remaining six teams in the quarter-final stage.

Punjab name their squad for the tournament

With many senior cricketers available for this tournament, all the teams named some big players in their squads. This tournament will feature some of India’s Test specialist like Ravichandran Ashwin, Murali Vijay, Chesteshwar Pujara, Ravindra Jadeja and others. The Punjab team also named two veteran players in their squad.

PCA’s senior selection committee under the chairmanship of former cricketer Yashpal Sharma picked the team for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy. The selectors named the veteran off-spinner, Harbhajan Singh as the captain of their team. Punjab will play their first league match against Haryana on February 7.

Punjab will play all their matches at Alur in Karnataka from February 7 to 16, a Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) spokesman said today. Moreover, Yuvraj Singh, who is one of India’s finest all-rounders will also feature in the squad and was named the vice-captain.

Earlier in the IPL auction, both Yuvi and Harbhajan were sold at their base price of INR 2 crores to KXIP and CSK respectively. Furthermore, it will be a great experience for the Punjab players to be sharing the dressing room with two stalwarts of Indian cricket.
